Golfis a
precision club and ball sport, in which competing golfers
use many types of clubs
to hit balls into a series of holes on a
golf course using the fewest number of strokes.
It is one of the few
ball gamesthat
does not require a standardized playing area. Instead, the
game is played on golf "courses", each of which features a
unique design, although courses typically consist of either
nine or 18 holes. Golf is defined as "playing a ball with a
club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or
successive strokes in accordance with the Rules."
Golf competition is generally played for the lowest number
of strokes by an individual, known simply as
stroke play, or the lowest score on the most
individual holes during a complete round by an individual or
team, known as match play.
The

include hiring and
training staff,
managing the golf
shop, marketing the
golf facility,
establishing and
running instruction
and tournament

planning and budget
of the golf
operation and member
retention and
recruitment.
Golf Instruction
The
Director of Golf may
also gives golf
lessons. Golf
professionals, or
"Pros," conduct the
majority of the
training. The pros
have an extensive
background in
teaching and playing
golf.
Career
Advancement
The
Director of Golf is
one of the highest
positions available
for a golf
professional. A
Director of Golf is
usually a Class A
member of the PGA.
They typically work
as an Assistant and
Head Golf
Professional before
being promoted to
the Director of Golf
position.
The
next step in career
advancement from
Director of Golf is
General Manager. As
the General Manager,
he will oversee the
entire golf facility
operation. The
General Manger
oversees the golf
operations and
manages the food and
beverage operation.
The Director of
Golf, coordinates
plans with the Food
and Beverage
Manager.
